Lessons in Life
I am an S.4 student in English Course Queen Elizabeth School HKCT. My name is Kar.

The book I read is “Lessons in Life”, published in the year 2006 by Chameleon Press, written by Elsie Tu.

About the Author: The writer was born in Newcastle Tyne, England. She was a teacher and a former member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong. Elsie Tu has been living in Hong Kong for 60 years. She speaks Cantonese and her husband was a Chinese.

The Content of the book: This book contains 40 articles on politics, moral, saving our culture and heritage, the changes of old and new Hong Kong, and so on.

The Message of the Author: The writer is not only sharing her experience of life with readers, but also inspiring people to take care of others, treasure their family members and learn from hardship.

My Opinion of the book: I learn from the book that we should tolerate everyone if we want to live with others peacefully. Actually, life is not all fun; we should keep a sense of humour to manage difficulties whenever we face problems, hurdles and obstacles. After reading the book, I think that Hong Kong students should work hard in English, write in sentences carefully and learn English everyday by reading with their eyes as well as mouth if they want to get good results.

Recommendation: This book is very good and useful to read. I would recommend it to students. They should read more books outside the school syllabus to widen their minds and sight.

That’s all of my presentation. Hope you enjoy listening. Thank you.

My Favourite Business Person

5/4/2011 My Favourite Business Person (Kar) Good evening Sir / Madam The topic I am going to talk about is my favourite business person, Li Ka Shing who is a property developer. He is ambitious, hardworking and accommodating, and has achieved remarkable success in his work especially on property development items. However, Li ran a factory where produced plastic products during early1950s. As a riot in 1967, it caused plenty of house owners to sell their flats or houses in a low rate for leaving Hong Kong since they thought that there was not a safe place to live with others peacefully. Nevertheless, Li did not think so and bought many flats inexpensive then. Finally, he sold them at a high price. Earning money more and more, he changed his mind on business since then. A magazine called Asiaweek figured out Li is the richest man in Hong Kong and is the eleventh richest person in the world on 11 March 2011. Being 82 years old, he still goes on duty continuously. On the other hand, He is generous to donate a lot of money supporting many organizations, charities, universities, and some educational funds, and so on. Moreover, He established the Li Ka Shing Foundation (LKSF) in 1980 to assist the person in need. In my opinion, Li is smart, considerate as well as creative. He is helpful to care for the underprivileged pupils. Therefore, having better education, the poor students may have shining future. If there are many rich people, whether who is an employer or not, to give a helping hand to the needy children. It is good for society. This is my presentation. Thank you.

Kowloon, Hong Kong 2/4/2011 Ellen Peters Manager Peters Consulting 5th Floor, Hang Shun Building, 10-12 Wyndham Street, Central Hong Kong Dear Ms Ellen Re: Problems with our office design (Kar) I am writing in regard to your letter of 30th October 2010 concerning the problems with your office design. I am sorry to hear about the problems you have experienced. I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. As for the flowered wallpaper, after checking your file, I found that there was our fault. I apologise for our error. We should replace it. You can visit our website www.cldesigngroup.com and click on the wallpaper designs and choose your wallpaper. Please call me ASAP to let me know which one you would like. Respecting the receptionist’s desk is in the wrong location, after referring to the original plan. I am afraid that we cannot relocate the desk for free because it was to be located on the left, next to the toilet in the relevant plan. Nevertheless, perhaps we could do it at half the usual price since you are a valued customer. As regards my secretary, Penny Chow, she could not make the appointment because I had been out of town then and I did not know when I would be back. However, I apologise again for Penny’s behaviour, I have talked to her about it and she will never behave like this. Once again, please accept my apologies for the incorrect wallpaper and Ms Chow’s behaviour. I look forward to serving you in the future. Yours sincerely, Catherine Lee Managing Director
