Princess Diana

(Kar) Diana, Princess of Wales (1961-1997) was quite beautiful, kind and accommodating. She led a remarkable life. Also, she was popular with persons all over the world. Wherever Diana went, crowds of people were eager to see her.

Princess Diana had a fairytale romance with Prince Charles and married him in 1981. Next year, she gave birth to a baby boy: Prince William, who is the heir and will be a future king of England. In 1984, she gave birth to her second son: Prince Harry. Her family seemed complete and happy, and she was even the luckiest woman in the world.

However, in fact, she felt angry and lonely because of her husband’s lack of attention. Furthermore, she was less delighted with the rigid rules of the Royal Family so she began to revolt against them to show that she was quite unhappy. In 1992, the Prince and Princess of Wales had agreed to separate and four years later they divorced.

Diana had done a lot of works to help many charities and had supported more than 100 of them before she divorced. She was especially interested in the homeless, disabled people and children & people with AIDS.

Attending to a campaign of ban on the manufacture and use of landmines, she visited Angola to propagandise the suffering of landmine victims in January 1997. Diana had spoken several conferences on landmines in London and Washington DC. She met both the President of the United States and the British Prime Minister to ask for their help with the anti-landmine campaign. On the other hand, horrified and shocked by a United Nations report, which estimated about 110 million unexploded landmines in the world, she was also concerned that more than 2,000 people were killed or injured by landmines each month.

Although she and Prince Charles divorced, people around the world continued to be fascinated by her. Photographers often followed her and her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed. They even chased the couple on motorcycles hoping to get some photos of them. Photographers were quite dangerous to do so because a good photo of the couple could be sold to magazines and newspapers for as high as US$1,000,000.

Unfortunately, on 31 August 1997, at just 36 years of age, Diana died in a traffic accident since her chauffeur had tried to escape the photographers by driving very fast, the car went out of control and crashed when it was travelling through a tunnel in Paris, France.

If Diana had not been so popular with people in the world, she would not have died, in order to escape the photographers, in the accident.
