Ex-10 Addiction or Determination?

(Kar) Some of addicts, such as drugs, alcoholic drinks and gambling, sometimes bothered their family members or friends since they hadn’t got any money from them to enjoy their addiction activities. Unfortunately, their family ones were even hit at that moment.

In fact, the violence of theirs also damages the relationship of family. It may cause family disruption. If they had resisted temptation, they wouldn’t have been addicts.

On the other hand, many teenagers are addicted to computer. They often spend too much time on surfing the Internet. Some of them are even addicted to smoking. They may be under peer influence. It’s silly of them to think smoking that looks “cool” or “smart.” However, it shows that they are less wise, mature, to manage. Actually, Smoking not only damages their images even affect health.

We should support and love to help them. Lead ones to stay away from addiction, and then encourage them to build a healthy lifestyle. In my opinion, we can resist temptation to be addicts since we have courage, principle and determination. Therefore, we should stick with the rules.

Ex-9 What is Globalization?

(Kar) It’s quite difficult for farmers in poor countries to sell their crops with lower price. It’s because that they depend their produces to support their families for other expenses. However, they might not get a large harvest every time. Conversely, they often face the extreme weather: their crops were destroyed by typhoons or died during the drought. It causes them to get much hard in their lives but their government seldom helps them.

In the meantime, governments of rich countries usually sell crops to poor countries with an inexpensive price. It’s extremely hard for farmers in poor countries to earn their rice. Crying out for a more level playing-field, their voices have not been heard. Consequently, they demonstrate in every country where the WTO meets.

If the rich corporations had provided a level playing-field for underdeveloped countries, the violent demonstrations of opposing world trade wouldn't have been happened.

Ex-8 The Old and the New Hong Kong

(Kar) The advantages of New Hong Kong, such as the medical or educational service are better than the old one. There is new technology, good transport and less corruption now. Besides, the Government provides the 9-year free education, which is from primary 1 to Secondary 3 for students and provides a lot of low rent housing estates for the low-income people or families. She also supports the social welfare benefits to help the people in need and provides the better laws to protect the poor, and then there are many huge shopping malls for shopping, and the public transport is very convenient especially the MTR system.

On the other hand, there are many disadvantages of New Hong Kong, such as many more factories had been moved from Hong Kong to China during the 1990s. As a result, many workers lost their jobs, the middle-aged workers and the person with low educational level or low skills especially. Moreover, the relationship of neighbours may not be close. They might not know who lives in next door, what their names are. In the meantime, children often spend too much time on surfing the web. They don’t have enough time talking with their parents or family members.

The life was quite hard in Old Hong Kong fifty years ago. People often lived in a small flat; they even shared it with others or lived in a room with family members. Children often shared a bed with their brothers or sisters together. It was extremely crowded for them to live in those days.

However, the relationship of neighbourhood was closer than New Hong Kong’s. People often popped into the small shops and chatted with the owners then. In addition, children usually played with their neighbours. They sometimes were even invited having dinner by next door.

Ex-7 Humour in Times Trouble

(Kar) It’s true that life is not all of fun. Nevertheless, if you tried to keep a sense of humour facing difficulty, your hardship would be got less and less. Besides, I used to be pessimistic. Not weeping again, I often smile instead since I have kept a sense of humour during in hard days. As a result, we should be wise enough to face any trouble with a cheerful frame of mind. Consequently, we will find that problems are easily solved, and that we will be enjoyable, and have more confidence, to face hardship.

Therefore, it’s important for us to be optimistic. I believe that an optimist who often with smiles on his face and easily obtain remarkable success in his work

Ex-5 Meet “Mr. Fixit,” a Filipino Hero

(Kar) Recently, I read about three helpers, who had avenged the treatment on their masters in Hong Kong, on a newspaper. The first one added her own catheter to water to boil; the second one added her period blood to the soup to serve her master and the third one even with a little bleach mix the bottle of milk to feed the baby. Fortunately, tasting unsavory from the milk, the baby refused to drink it. It’s extremely terrible of them to do.

What’s the matter with them? They said that because the relationship with their employers was bad, and that their ones had treated them unkindly. However, many helpers are quite kind and loyal to their employers. They are often taken to go out for dinner with their masters together.

In my opinion, it’s necessary for us to respect everyone. Treated kindly by their masters, the helpers are conscientious about their work. Therefore, employers should treat them like family members if they hope to have better helpers.

Ex-6 Have you a Conscience about our Planet?

(Kar) In my opinion, it’s necessary for us to protect the environment. We should learn to recycle. For examples, we should reuse paper for copy rather than throwing it away, and that we don’t use the disposable tools such as plastic spoons, forks, knives, or foam bowls, glass or paper plates etc.

On the other hand, we should reduce pollution: air, water, and land pollution. Therefore, we should take more public transport, instead drive cars, to work. In the meantime, we don’t throw away any rubbish into the sea or on the ground. We should put it into the rubbish bin. It’s clean enough to keep the environment. Moreover, it’s necessary for us to consider before we do our shopping that we ask ourselves if we need to buy or we want to do.

If we had saved Earth’s resources, the melting of glaciers wouldn’t have swallowed up large areas of land. It’s important for us to teach our children how to save the environment of our Earth.

Ex-4 Playing the Game

(Kar) Personally, I believe the true of sportsmanship that the athletes whenever who wins the game or lose. They should shake hands politely. Trying your best to finish the match, you don’t mind getting the result that good or bad.

In the meantime, fans should really appreciate and enjoy watching the skills of the players, rather than riot if their favorite team loses a match or gamble on matches.
It’s important for us to learn the enjoyment in every sport of true sportsmanship.

Ex-3 Giving a Helping Hand

(Kar) Caring for people in need or be civic-minded, we will be enjoyable. In the meantime, our face will often with smiles after we had done.

Actually, the personalities of Hong Kong’s people are often helpful, passionate and amiable. Knowing other places, in the world, had disaster, especially China, they give a hand immediately. It’s generous of them to donate a lot of money in a short time. It’s extremely accommodating of them.

Ex-2 Tolerance

(Kar) Religious believers strongly believe to worship their god. Some of them may intolerance other religions. They often argue to struggle different from their opinions, even adopt warlike attitude. Luckily, some of them may tolerance other ones. They hope to live peacefully with others together. After all, they hope the world to be more peaceful coexistence.

Actually, the aims of religions often teach their believers to be kind to others and should love everybody who is like their family members. If we would tolerate each other’s differences, the world will be more peaceful.

Ex-1 Laughter, the Spice of Life

(Kar) Every country’s cultural or customs may not be same as other ones. For examples: When the English people greet each other on the street. They often say “Good morning” or “Good day”, even they may chat the weather that day is warm or dry. Chinese ones, when they meet, they usually ask, “Where are you going?’ or “Have you eaten rice?” It’s quite interesting of the cultural difference between them.

Therefore, being wise to learn something about the culture of the people in their country, we may not misunderstand them. It’s important for us to tolerate each other’s differences, such as customs, nationalities, religions and political. If not, the world will be less peace or freedom.
